Buffalo’s Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site stands as a powerful reminder of American history, especially as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026.
In 1901, Buffalo hosted the Pan-American Exposition, an event marred by the tragic assassination of President William McKinley.
This led to the sudden swearing-in of Theodore Roosevelt at Ansley Wilcox’s Delaware Avenue home, thrusting Buffalo into the global spotlight.
The historic Wilcox Mansion, once military quarters and later a private residence, now highlights the city’s rich legacy, underscoring Buffalo’s commitment to preserving its past.
As Buffalo’s sole National Park Service unit, the site offers guided tours daily, inviting visitors to explore this pivotal moment.
Special summer exhibits, including “12 Days in Buffalo” launching August 1, shine a light on the events surrounding Roosevelt’s unusual inauguration.
Reservations are encouraged due to limited space. Read More... |
